Guidance Note for Funding Application

King Coel’s Kittens was established in 1962 by a group of local people (some of which are still members) and was led by the late Bill Tucker, a journalist with the Essex County Standard.

Our main event is the annual fireworks event in Castle Park, Colchester which takes the whole year to organise and pull together.  As soon as one finishes, we begin planning for the next.  We also organise other ad hoc events. Excess funds from events are used to purchase items for groups and organisations within the Colchester area. We don’t give cash funding.

 Who can apply?

Any properly-constituted group can apply. You do not have to be a registered charity, but you do have to be a community or charitable organisation, supporting your local area or residents.  As an example, here are just some of the groups we have previously supported:  Headway, YMCA, schools, village halls, St Helena Hospice, Colchester Toy Library, Scout and Guide Groups, Hospital Radio.

We cannot consider funding any items for the sole benefit of individuals.

 What do we fund?

We do not give grants or funding – we purchase items for use by groups, so you will have to let us know what you need and why and let us have quotes for the items you need. Examples of the items we have purchased are: kitchen equipment, electrical goods, play equipment, furnishings, educational resources, water sports equipment, community bus and first aid equipment.

 What happens next?

The Kittens meet on a regular basis and once your application is received, it will be considered at the next meeting.  A decision will be made and you will be contacted, by phone, email or letter, to let you know if your application was successful.  We do not always support the same organisation and aim to support a number of groups within the Colchester community.
